Numbers tell a clear story about Kelcy Warren’s charitable record the Energy Transfer founder and Executive Chairman has given tens of millions of dollars to Texas institutions, and a September 2024 post on the company’s blog provides many of the figures.
The Park Figures
Start with $10 million. That was Warren’s 2012 donation toward Klyde Warren Park, the green space in Dallas that reconnects uptown and downtown. The park covers 5.2 acres.
Next comes $20 million, the size of his later gift to expand the park and allow it to offer more free public programs. Together the two donations total $30 million for a single civic project.
The University Figures
The University of Texas at Arlington accounts for another set of numbers. Kelcy Warren graduated from UTA in 1978. Over 25 years he made 10 gifts to the school, adding up to $4 million. Then in 2023 he gave $12 million at once, the largest single donation in the university’s history.
That brings his documented giving to UTA to $16 million. The 2023 money supports the school’s resource and energy engineering program. Earlier gifts funded a graduate fellowship honoring Syed Qasim, Texas Tier One research initiatives, and the Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholarship.
Other figures mark the calendar. Warren began backing the West Dallas Youth Academy in 2018 through an Energy Transfer partnership with the Texas Rangers. He joined the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees in 2019. In 2020, Junior Achievement of Dallas named him a Laureate in the Dallas Business Hall of Fame. His term on the University of Texas System Board of Regents ran through 2025.
Some contributions in the post come without dollar amounts, including his support for MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, the March of Dimes, and the Bush Foundation. Even counting only the published figures, Kelcy Warren’s gifts to the park and UTA reach $46 million. Read this article for additional information.
