The board of directors at Zaxby’s, a leading fast-casual restaurant chain with more than 1,100 locations across the United States and internationally, announced that Zaxby’s CEO and co-founder Zach McLeroy would transition to chairman immediately.

Bernard Acoca has been appointed as the new chief executive officer. Zaxby’s CEO McLeroy believes that Bernard Acoca has the right combination of experience and skills to lead the company. Acoca will be responsible for day-to-day operations while McLeroy transitions to the chairman.

“This is an important step in our Company’s evolution,” said McLeroy. “I want to continue to dedicate myself to the continued growth of Zaxby’s through strategic growth initiatives and finding the highest quality people to lead each of our Company’s business channels”.

Acoca currently serves as president of Zaxby’s Chicken, a position he will continue until McLeroy retires from the Company. Bernard Acoca said that as the CEO and co-founder, Zach has been instrumental in driving our growth over the last 13 years and will continue to play a leading role in the Company’s future. He added that he has been impressed with Zach’s leadership and vision and is excited to lead the Company into its next chapter.

The leading fast-casual restaurant chain will continue to focus on investing in the company’s culture and employees as it grows. According to Zaxby’s CEO Zach McLeroy, the people of Zaxby’s are their strength and greatest asset. The Company will continue to emphasize its responsibility to create jobs and cultivate its people as a priority.

The Company is also committing to giving back to the communities in which it operates. Zaxby’s currently contributes nearly 6 percent of annual revenue to local charitable organizations, and expects that percentage will grow as the brand expands internationally. McLeroy said he hopes that operating by their “Plan for Good” philosophy and purpose statement in each community will allow them to continue to elevate their corporate social responsibility efforts over time.
