The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation will be a welcoming place where kids and teens can participate in a wide range of enrichment, recreational, and instructional programs.
The programs are designed to help them grow as individuals, strengthen their communities, and work together to solve problems.
RIOC President and CEO Shelton Haynes have stressed the importance of RIOC’s funding for youth programs and equitable access to education.
The organization’s director has said that the newly rebuilt building is a more creative, warm, welcoming, and energetic environment for the many programs they proudly offer children on Roosevelt Island and beyond.
Group Architecture has modernized the building’s structure and layout to incorporate features like a music den with various instruments, a multipurpose lounge, an activity studio, crafts and study center, and a learning kitchen for children and teens aged seven to eighteen.
In addition to a brand-new media theater, gaming center, and STEM lab, there is also a beautiful new garden dedicated to teaching and learning.
Equal care was taken in the interior design; the room’s intended use was considered when choosing colors. Using teal, burnt orange, and tangerine together to evoke feelings of joy, energy, and unfettered abandon in the observer.
A flexible, diverse, and welcoming space for people of all ages can be achieved via modular furniture that allows for easy rearrangement and modification to suit the specific demands of the area and its users.
According to Erica Spencer-EL, RIOC’s Director of Communications and Community Affairs, “With the opening of these doors, young people are not only receiving a tailored physical location to enjoy, but they are also gaining the opportunity to expand their educational horizons.”
The Benefits of Being Part of the Program
In addition to maintaining and bettering the facility, members will have several opportunities to learn new things, meet new people, and advance their careers, as well as numerous chances to participate in recording episodes of the RIYC podcast, YC Live.
Assistant Director Ana Medina of the Rhode Island Youth Commission has stated, “Our goal has been and continues to be the creation of great programs.”
Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation created a space where teens can feel comfortable being themselves, learning from one another, and making true connections with their peers according to Shelton Haynes.
Apart from the magnificent millwork and high-tech televisions that have already been mentioned, the building also has other amenities.
We also set up energy-saving security cameras along with cutting-edge HVAC, plumbing, and lighting. Modernized accessible public restroomss and artistically crafted lobby windows are two of the building’s most notable features.
