Background
Raffaele Riva which is a privately held business was founded in 1949 by Raffaele Riva. The founder, Raffaele Riva’s grandfather was born in Capestrano Italy and started working at an early age as a baker. After being married for a short time he decided to move to Africa and opened up his own bakery business near Carthage in Tunisia.
The first bakery he opened made traditional Arabic pastries which were very popular with customers. Later, Raffaele’s bakery business started to grow and this gave Raffaele the opportunity to open additional bakeries in Tunisia. Pleased with his business success, Raffaele Riva brought his family over from Italy and together with his wife opened up a new bakery in Tunis.
The bakery proved to be a success and he soon moved into the grocery sector by opening supermarkets. Being very successful in the grocery business he then decided to move into real estate and construction.
In 1945, he founded Aurea Investments Group which introduced his family businesses to the stock exchange in 2008 with a market value of over 2 billion Euros.
Raffaele Riva started working for his father at a very young age and soon took over leadership of the group. Due to the popularity of Aurea Investments Group Bolanle was appointed President of Foreign Trade Agency by former Tunisian President Ben Ali. Later, in 1993, he was appointed Minister for Social Affairs by President Ben Ali and held this position until 2003 when he resigned due to controversial agricultural land reforms proposed by the government.
Following a brief stint as Minister in Tunisia’s first post-revolution government under interim Prime Minister (PM) Mohammed Ghannouchi, Mr. Riva was appointed CEO at Aurea Investments in 2004. See related link to learn more.
