Raffaele Riva, the founder and managing director of Aurea Multi-Family Group, was born in southern Italy, in a small town called Cassano all’Ionio. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II from 1987 to 1991.
He completed his post-graduate studies at Clemson University, North Carolina (USA), completing a Masters Degree in Transportation Engineering and Planning (1992) and an MBA Strategic Management for Global Businesses (1996).
Raffaele Riva started his career with Aurea Group on a consultancy basis for the Cassano all’Ionio project. In 2002 he became an executive director of Aurea Construction Ltd.
In the same year he decided to invest his own money into Aurea Construction and he became a shareholder of the company.
In 2003 Aurea Construction’s managing director, Giuseppe Carbone, decided to stop working in the construction sector. He was replaced by Raffaele. In 2004 Raffaele started working exclusively as managing director at Aurea Construction.
In 2005 he set up Aurea Multi-Family Group (AMFG), which was responsible for renovation and reconstruction of buildings in Italy and Malta.
In 2008 Akwaaban Holdings Limited (Holdings) purchased 25% of Aurea Construction Ltd’s share capital from him (39% if you include AMFG’s share capital). In late 2009, due the financial crisis, Raffaele had to sell the remaining stake (34.7%+14.3%) in Aurea Construction Ltd to Akwaaban Holdings Group in order to avoid bankruptcy.
The Aurea Multi-Family Group is still owned by him, but is now solely involved in real estate investments and project management in Malta and Italy. In 2015 Raffaele was profiled by the Sunday Times as one of the youngest millionaires in Malta . He currently owns over 100 properties in Malta alone, and owns farmland in Italy, as well as a hotel in Malta.
In 2013 Raffaele Riva founded Aurea Holdings Limited (Holdings), which is an investment company. An investment company is a type of legal entity that allows for the raising of capital and the investing of it. Since it’s very first investment in 2013, Aurea Holdings has invested over €5 million in various companies around Europe.’
Raffaele Riva was appointed NorQuest College Malta Limited (NQCML) Honorary Life Member on 14th February 2016 ‘for his entrepreneurship and lifetime of commitment to the community’. See this article for more information.
