Gino Pozzo is the owner and president of England’s Watford Football Club. He has the reputation for turning around lackluster teams and leading them to the championship. Pozzo has always had a passion for football. In fact, his father purchased a football team back in the 1980s. He was able to fund it through the family’s highly-successful tool-making business.
At the age of 18, the Italy native moved to the U.S. to study at Harvard. He received both a Bachelors and a Master’s degree then returned back to his homeland. After spending 20 years in Spain, he and his family moved back to London. It was during this time that he purchased Vicarage Road team.
While Gino Pozzo loves his family business, he decided to go a different route. It was always his desire to own and run his own football team. As one of the most forward thinking people in the business, Pozzo was able to make significant changes almost immediately. With the Udinese team, Pozzo was able to turn it around and they made it to the Champions League in three years.
Gino Pozzo has learned a great deal in managing a football team. It has taught him a lot about perseverance and patience. The people who know him best say they are not surprised at what he’s done. He has always been a purpose driven person that had a very unorthodox approach. It paid off.
The Watford Club was heavily in debt and completely dysfunctional when he took it on. But he had a plan. By 2015, all of of his teams had made it to Champions League.
“I believe that my long-term approach is what helped us become so successful,” said Pozzo.
Both fans and players alike give Pozzo a thumbs up. He has resounding support and has raised the bar. Pozzo says he expects more success in the years to come. Refer to this page to learn more.
