From IPO expertise to behavioral health Brian Farley steers Acadia Healthcare through regulation and growth

Brian Farley, Acadia Healthcare appointed a seasoned corporate lawyer to lead its legal function after joining the company in July 2023. As General Counsel and Secretary, he oversees a team of attorneys responsible for the full spectrum of Acadia Healthcare’s legal affairs and serves as a strategic advisor to the executive team and the Board of Directors.

In his role, Farley manages matters ranging from securities law and corporate governance to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, litigation, labor and employment, and regulatory compliance. His oversight extends to legal risk mitigation and aligning legal strategy with Acadia Healthcare’s operational priorities as the behavioral health provider navigates complex regulatory and reimbursement landscapes.

Farley arrives with a record of leadership in high-growth, regulated sectors. Before Acadia Healthcare, he was Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at GoHealth, a major Medicare Advantage marketplace. There he led legal, regulatory, compliance, SEC and government affairs functions, and played a central role in the legal work that supported GoHealth’s initial public offering in 2020. His tenure at GoHealth reinforced expertise in public company governance and securities compliance, competencies he now brings to Acadia’s boardroom.

Earlier positions include senior leadership roles at Allscripts, where he served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Administrative Officer, and legal leadership at Motorola Mobility during significant global transactions. Farley’s earlier career spans Level 3 Communications, Rhythms NetConnections, and law firm Collier, Shannon, Rill & Scott, building a foundation in commercial law and corporate governance.

Farley’s academic credentials complement his practical experience. He holds a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School, an MBA from the University of Colorado, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economics from Colorado College.

Industry observers say Acadia Healthcare’s appointment of an experienced in-house legal leader reflects a broader trend among healthcare companies to strengthen governance and compliance amid heightened regulatory scrutiny. With Brian Farley overseeing legal strategy, Acadia aims to bolster transaction readiness, regulatory resilience, and board-level counsel as it advances its growth and care-delivery objectives.
