Colcom Foundation Protecting Ecosystems Through Educational Outreach

Cordelia S. May created the Colcom Foundation in 1996. Throughout her life she understood that the balance between the ever-growing human population and the world we live in was going to sway. The ecosystems could only tolerate the fast growth for so long if efforts to preserve the environment were not put into place. When she was only 23 she began her efforts to help educate people about quality of life and family planning.

Throughout the years, the Colcom Foundation has been part of many environment efforts to help increase natural resources end educate people as well. The Colcom foundation operates out of Southwestern Pennsylvania and focuses on conservation, education, media, grassroots organizations, legal organizations, research, stewardship, trails, waste diversion and youth services. By supporting all of these aspects of environmental and conservation projects, they are able to bring awareness to multiple areas of awareness.

The Colcom Foundation also supports projects that enrich the lives of people living within the Southwestern region of Pennsylvania. These projects include the red cross, walled garden fountain, guardian angels medical service dogs, compassion and choices for end-of-life care, the community kitchen of Pittsburgh, Touchstone center for crafts, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, scenic Pittsburgh and grounded. All of these organizations focus on improving the quality of life through art education, local education, housing for those with landlord problems, food for individuals unable to provide their own food and other local resources to better improve and service the community.

When an organization tries to create a positive impact in all aspects of life, they become regarded and caring and invested in their community. This foundation has clearly met all of these needs. They firmly believe in teaching the youth of today about conservation efforts and the arts to further enrich their lives. They also focus on immigration and population control through educational programs to help others understand why conserving land and space is so important to our fragile ecosystems.
