The story behind the founding of the company
Andy visited their natural grocery store in 1987 to hunt for prepared meals while Rachel was pregnant and on bed rest. They opted to make their own when he was unable to find anything organic and vegetarian that met their palates. They first enlisted the assistance of a few family members.
While starting a new company, Rachel and Andy welcomed their daughter into the world on November 18, 1987, naming her Amy.
The Berliner family convened for a brainstorming session to come up with a name for their new business. In terms of families, none could concur. Eleanor, Rachel’s mother, had a dream that night, and she came up with the brilliant idea to call their new business Amy after the newest member of the family the following day.
